History of Stanly Ranch Pinot Noir
Pinot Noir was first planted at Stanly Ranch in the 1940s, when a clonal trial proved the ranch’s well-drained day-loam soils and rolling hills ideal for growing the pinot varietal. The vineyard property has evolved and been refined over the years, and Stanly Ranch is now one of the most desirable vineyards for Pinot Noir in California.
Tasting Notes & Aging Process
Aged for two years in used French oak Cabernet Sauvignon barrels, this is a Pinot with some weight. Oak integrates with sweet cherry and creates a textural graininess that is mouth filling and appealing. Tobacco leaf and cinnamon-coffee bristle on the palate. Meaty, with an inner brightness caught up in a fine acid structure.
